About Sõmerpalu Youth House
The Sõmerpalu youth room was opened on November 15, 2016. It is located in the premises of the former Sõmerpalu municipal building, now known as the Sõmerpalu Community House. In 2025, the youth room moved from the left wing of the building to the center. The youth room has four rooms at its disposal: a kitchen, a youth worker's office, a cinema room, and a computer lab. The interior was planned with a youth-friendly environment in mind—creating a space where one can move and play, but also retreat and rest when needed. A key keyword for the space is mobility.
The Sõmerpalu youth room is open to all young people aged 7–26 who wish to spend their leisure time pleasantly, participate in active endeavors and youth events that support non-formal learning, and meet new people.
Sõmerpalu's youth are active in writing projects for the Võru Parish self-initiative support fund. Thanks to this support, they have organized playback shows in the community house, various camps, and "youth nights," both for local youth and in cooperation with other youth houses. Larger events are held in the Sõmerpalu Community House assembly hall or the sports hall.

Services and Facilities
In the cozy environment of the Sõmerpalu youth room, you can socialize, play popular games, find necessary information, and seek advice from a youth worker.
Visitors can play computer games, listen to music, and use a DJ controller and sound equipment for mixing music. In the cinema room, in addition to watching movies on a large screen, one can hold lectures in a more relaxed setting or play PlayStation. The youth room offers various games: Pocket billiards, WildEst, Twister, Monopoly, air hockey, table football, billiards, and more.
Sports enthusiasts have access to a full-size sports hall for basketball and volleyball, as well as a gym. The youth room premises also include a separate small gym for individual training. Additionally, a playground and sports field with a ball box are located near the youth room.
The kitchen is equipped with furniture and includes a washer-dryer. There are also tables for various activities such as cooking, drawing, painting, and other handicrafts. The youth room is also available for celebrating birthdays, class nights, or other events.
Accessibility
The Sõmerpalu youth room is located on the second floor of the Sõmerpalu Community House. Visitors can park their vehicles in the parking lot on the right side of the building. There is a paved access path to the youth room entrance, and stairs lead down from the top of the hill to the door.
Entry is through the main door in the center of the building. Upon entering, a few steps lead to the next door; after entering that, you must turn left immediately and enter the first door. From there, stairs lead to the second floor. The staircase consists of two flights with a landing in between. A handrail is available only on the left side throughout the staircase. The entrance to the youth room is at the top of the stairs on the second floor.
It is currently not possible for visitors with mobility-related special needs to visit the youth room, as the building does not have a stair climber or elevator.
